A Reflection... What is Juneteenth?
Today is June 19th, 2020. It's a day of liberation for the black community in the United States. Why? Because 155 years ago, in 1865, slaves in Texas were set free. The crazy thing is, slaves in the confederacy were supposed to have been set free 2 years prior after the Emancipation Proclamation. However, it took two years for Texas because the enforcement of the proclamation was slow. It's said that slavery still took place in a few union border states even after Juneteenth, but officially ended in December of the same year. This was an important turning point for our country! So, today, we reflect on, learn, and celebrate and honor our Black Ancestors and today's Black Americans. Happy Juneteenth!...
