Heavy is the head that wears the crown.
Originally "Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown." - Shakespeare’s play Henry IV, Part 2
Some times the weight is hard to explain.
You’re not trying to be famous. You’re not chasing a spotlight. You just want to be OK. You want to do right by your people. You want to show up for the life you’re building. But it’s heavy.
This post is about the quiet pressure of being who you’re supposed to be when you’re already stretched thin. Because even if you didn’t ask for a crown, life may have handed you one anyway.
Maybe you're the one everyone leans on, even when you're barely standing yourself.
Maybe you're the first in your family to try something different—to heal, to speak up, to unlearn, to go the un-conventional route.
The crown could look like showing up to work after crying in the car. Holding your household down without a thank you. Making dinner while fighting depression. Choosing faith when you have no idea what you're headed towards. Feeling like you're behind in life compared to everyone else. Working tirelessly to pay bills yet you still can't afford to pay them all. Being strong so long that no one checks in anymore.
You wear it every day. Even if no one sees it. Just because you don’t complain, doesn’t mean you don’t feel it. You keep saying ‘I’m good’ because you don’t have the energy or words to explain what’s really going on.
Just because you’re strong, doesn’t mean you don’t break sometimes. Admitting to this weight makes you honest and strong, never weak.
I'm not here to give you a pep talk. I'm here to inspire you to give yourself permission.
Permission to be honest. Permission to rest. Permission to stop pretending.
Permission to say, “This is a lot” and begin to make a plan to prioritize your mental and possibly set some boundaries if need be.
You were made to grow through life, including the pressure that comes along with it.
And even if no one claps for you... you’re still doing more than most could manage.
If the crown feels heavy today, adjust it. But don’t give up on yourself. You’re closer than you think, and you’ve already come further than you realize. One day, the life you’re quietly fighting for will thank you for not giving up.
Here’s some questions I want you to ask yourself:
- What’s one excuse I’ve outgrown but still hold onto?
- What if I gave as much energy to rebuilding as I’ve given to surviving?
- You’ve made it this far carrying pain… Can you Imagine how far you’d go carrying purpose?
Peace.
