When You Realize You're The One

Have you ever come to a realization that you’re the one?
Not because you wanted the spotlight…and you may not have even asked for it. But stepping up is a natural part of who you are. You're the one who steps forward when everyone else wont. You carry the weight of responsibility when others hesitate. You see possibilities when others can't, and you move even when you're unsure.

It's not about ego but it's your instinct, courage, and calling. That moment you pay attention to the signs that God has placed something in you: vision, resilience, and an outlet to have your voice heard.

Being the one is about realizing that you're the example and the first step that others are waiting for.

It took me a while to realize this in me; It's especially difficult to notice while you're presently in those moments of taking leadership. But in hindsight, I acknowledge the signs. As soon as I got the spark to write and record music, I was the one who bought the equipment, learned how to use it, and told my friends, “I set up a studio, come record." Even though everyone had this same interest as me. I didn’t wait for someone else to put it into action, I made it happen.

When my mom got sick, I dropped everything and moved back to DC. I became the one who scheduled her appointments, managed her medicine, fed her, and spoke to doctors and family on her behalf. Nobody had to tell me what to do. Action kicked in.

In all of my hardest seasons: being unhoused, losing people I love, and fighting through lack, the voice inside me said, “Keep going. Get through this. God has great plans for me” And I did.

The pattern has always been the same through every chapter of my life: God keeps positioning me to step up, even when I didn’t plan to.

I hope that whoever is reading this realizes that maybe God made you “the one.” Not for ego. Not for glory. But because God wants to do great things through you.

How Do You Recognize This Feeling?

A lot of people run from leadership because they don’t realize that the urge to step up is actually the call. I can let you know what my experience was and maybe you'll find some that resonates.

  • You can’t ignore it. The thought lingers and even if you tried to dismiss it, you feel restless until you step forward. Even if you once started and decided to quit, you find yourself right back at it.

  • People naturally look to you. People turn to you because they trust you.

  • You make things possible. You’re the one who creates, organizes, decides, or provides.

  • Your words carry weight. People repeat back your encouragement. They remind you of what you once said that helped them keep going.

  • You sense something bigger at work. Deep down, you know you're supposed to be doing something more meaningful that feels good to your spirit. Something that makes a difference. You know that it’s not just you, it’s God positioning you to impact others.

Stop Getting in Your Own Way

A lot of people are waiting for permission to lead. Don’t wait. Don’t wait for a team. Don’t wait for money. Don’t wait for things to be perfect.

If you don’t want it bad enough to start wherever you are, maybe it’s not for you.

Because leadership often begins with just you. One decision, one step, and one act of courage. The help you need will come later. The spark starts with you!

Focus on building yourself, even if nobody claps in the beginning. Because the moment you realize you’re the one… everything shifts.

Peace y'all
