What’s On My Phone’s Lock Screen and Why It Matters

Yesterday was Tuesday and I didn’t post. But having momentum is about showing up, even if it's behind schedule.

Today, I want to share with you all what's on my phone's lock screen. It's the first thing I see when I pick up my phone, so I figure, why not be intentional?

Maybe that’s something worth asking yourself too. What’s the first message you see? Whether it’s your lock screen, your mirror, wherever... those words could set the tone for your mindset, your nervous system, and how you see yourself.

“Be proud of yourself. You’re doing great.”

These words carry weight for me. For a lot of us, we're our own harshest critics and need to be reminded that we're doing our best. We focus on what we haven’t done yet, what we should've done, or how far we are from where we want to be.

It may be rare that we pause and say something kind to ourselves.

Every time I grab my phone, I see a reminder that progress is still progress and that I'm doing great. "Great" doesn't mean perfection, but it does recognize that I'm showing up and moving forward. It's ok to be proud of yourself for putting in the effort, however big or small it may be. It doesn’t mean you’ve “made it” or that you should now get complacent since you've put in some effort.

No, what it means is that you acknowledge yourself and your efforts and now it's time to keep it moving. Strive forward.

We live in a world that celebrates results, but rarely celebrates resilience. My lock screen is my way of flipping that script. It’s not about waiting until I achieve something huge to feel good about myself. It’s about telling myself the truth, "I’ve already survived much. I’ve already built and currently building, and I’m already doing better than I give myself credit for. So give the damn credit."

If you don’t say this to yourself, who will? And yes, you may have people who will, but will it be as consistent as every time you pick up your phone? Probably not.

If your home screen is intentional, whether through a message or an image, you’re programming your mind with what matters. Make it reflect who you are becoming so every time you pick up your phone, you send yourself a message.

What does your home screen say about you? Let's get intentional.

Peace.
