When thinking about success, I find it easy to focus solely on the big picture—financial success, the thriving business, the perfect family, or the life you’ve always wanted. But we often overlook the fact that success isn't built in leaps, but in small intentional steps.
Every monumental achievement began with a single action. Small steps have the power to create ripple effects that expand into big wins over time.
When I first started THE CEO STYLE, it wasn’t a grand business launch. I actually had no intention of creating a clothing line nor a motivation platform, it kind of stumbled upon me. My first action wasn’t groundbreaking; it was just heat pressing a t-shirt with one simple word on it, Focused, and wearing it during one of my performances. I didn’t know it at the time, but that was an idea that sparked a demand, attracted my first few customers, and gave me the confidence to take the next step of building a website.
Fast forward, what began as small ripples has grown into the start of a brand that has several people walking around as a representation of what it feels like to be focused towards personal greatness. And they're doing it wearing my brand!
I'm going to give you a few ideas of what helped me get going, and how you can embrace this approach to transform your goals into reality:
1. Start Where You Are
You don’t need to wait for the perfect moment. I've realized that success doesn’t demand perfection - the first Focused Hoodie I sold was of the toughest fabric and the logo was super big. But, somehow people wanted it and wore it with confidence. So again, success doesn't demand perfection; it demands progress.
2. Set Clear Goals
Break your larger goals into smaller, actionable steps. For example, when you have the idea of, “I want to start a business,” narrow it down to specific milestones like writing down what your business will do or solve, or taking an hour to explore other businesses in the same space to gather your thoughts about how your business will fit into your industry.
Or maybe you want to start a program for kids. Instead of a full curriculum start with one activity or event and build at your local community center or library.
Tackling goals in small pieces keeps them from feeling overwhelming!
3. Focus on Consistency, Not Speed
Success isn’t about how fast you move; it’s about how consistently you show up. So even if you're dedicating 30 minutes each day towards something, those small efforts will compound over time.
4. Celebrate the Small Wins
Every small step you complete is a step closer, so celebrate them. For example, you just finished a chapter of a book you’re writing or secured your first client, take a moment to acknowledge your progress.
Success isn’t JUST the destination; it’s the journey, too.
Embrace the journey and celebrate those small wins... and don't get caught up on the word "small', this does not mean insignificant. Small = Big
5. Keep Your Eye on the Ripple Effect
The effort you put in today can influence opportunities and outcomes you haven’t even envisioned yet.
When I first started rapping over 15 years ago, I didn't know where a single song would lead me. My first track wasn’t perfect, but it was my starting point. That one song led to more writing and ultimately over 50 tracks that reflect who I am as an artist.
Releasing my music out into the world wasn’t just about sharing my talent; it created opportunities for connection—curating my own tour, performing for audiences who genuinely felt my art, and eventually organizing showcases that gave other artists a platform to shine.
Your real life ripple effect could be a fitness journey, for example. Your commitment to walking 10 minutes daily turns into running marathons months later. You never know!
A Final Thought
You don’t have to do everything at once. But you do have to start. Master the art of steady progress. Each small step you take sends out ripples that will inevitably lead to bigger opportunities and wins.
Ask yourself: What steps should I take towards my success, and what’s one small action I can take today? Whether it’s making that overdue phone call, researching a new idea, or organizing your workspace, go for it!
Small actions build momentum! So start today, right where you are.
