Missing a step in your routine doesn’t erase your progress—it’s how you respond to those moments that defines your success.
What happens when life disrupts your flow? Setbacks can feel like a brick wall, threatening to undo everything you’ve worked for or just make you want to quit putting in the effort.
I almost didn't release a post for Momentum Tuesdays today. Just as I went to publish it, my computer froze. I restarted it and... what I thought was saved, was not. I wont lie, I felt a bit gutted. My first instinct was, "welp I'm not posting today. We'll skip this week because I do not feel like re-writing anything."
But here’s the truth: That setback had the power to stop me and probably wanted to, but it doesn't have to stop you. Setbacks are only as powerful as the meaning we give them. If you’ve ever felt like quitting when something interrupts your flow, here some advice on how to regain your footing and keep moving forward:
Accept the Disruption Without Judgment and Focus on What’s Still in Your Control.
It’s easy to let a setback spiral into frustration. Instead of going down that rabbit hole, just pause...
Take a minute to feel what you have to and go from there. I knew I was going to re-write and post for you all today, just not at that moment. I took an hour or two to get my mind right and then got back to the computer and started writing.
Acknowledge the moment for what it is—a disruption, BUT IT IS NOT a defeat.
Don’t Block Your Progress.
Not writing something as good as what I wrote before was my initial thought. I was satisfied with the topic I chose and I wrote some pretty good points. That's why I wasn't going to post today, I had absolutely no remembrance of what I said. So just throw the whole effort away is what I thought... haha
But remember this... our progress isn’t about being perfect; it’s about showing up consistently. Since you're reading this post right now, that means I upheld my commitment, even if it wasn’t exactly how I envisioned. That's what I want to stress to you— uphold your commitments.
Treat Setbacks as Lessons.
Disruptions have something to teach us if we’re willing to listen. In my case, it's save a backup. Which sounds like a "duh" moment, but I didn't do it, don't judge me. This setback became an opportunity to refine my process.
Keep the Bigger Picture in Mind
To conclude this, keep in mind that set backs can be used as an opportunity. New creativity and adaptability can come into play. Look, I made a whole blog post around it!
The next time your momentum is disrupted, remember this: success is about persistence. A lil stumble is not a fall. Regain your focus and take the next step forward.
No setback is strong enough to derail determined spirits like you and me!
Peace.
