I’ve been thinking about how fast things are changing with tech/AI, and within the economy. The question we're all probably wondering is, what industries should we pivot to that are still solid and have future job security?
I did some research for you so you don’t have to, so whether you're looking to pivot your career or you're a young adult just starting out, here you go...
Â
Industries with Promising Job Security:
Â
-
Healthcare:
Roles like nurses, doctors, therapists, and counselors are less susceptible to automation because of the need for human interaction and decision-making. Also, emergency medical personnel, and pediatric care. Surgeons would most likely be in demand as well. Their position has already seen collaborations with technology to assist with surgery, so the need for human surgeons to control and assist the robotic systems will be needed.      Â
Here are some jobs that Could become obsolete, so don't jump into healthcare blindly. AI can do these jobs very well, maybe even better that humans: Medical Transcriptionists, Radiology Assistants/Image Analysts, Administrative Roles, Pharmacy Technicians.Â
Â
-
Skilled Trades:
Electricians, Plumbers, and Auto Repair Techs (assuming all vehicles don't become fully electric, in this case you'll want to know software development and other tech).
These jobs require hands-on expertise/problem-solving which are difficult to automate.
Â
-
Social Work and Human Resources:
These fields are based off of human relationships, so interpersonal skills and even emotional intelligence are key, which I'm sure it'll be difficult for AI to take over.
Â
-
Tech Industry:
AI & Machine Learning, Cybersecurity, Data Science & Analytics, Cloud       Computing, Software Development, UX/UI Design.
Â
-
Climate & Sustainability:
Environmental Scientists & Engineers, Renewable Energy Technicians, Climate Policy Analysts, Corporate Sustainability Officers, Green Building Architects, Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure Specialists.
This is a growing field with tons of money being invested into it. Governments, corporations, and communities are under pressure to meet environment goals. I'm sure tech and AI will assist in this industry a lot, but the need for hands-on roles and innovators will be needed.
Â
-
Entrepreneurship:
Starting your own business or freelancing in specialized areas will give you control over your career and reduce reliance on traditional employment. I will say though, this is not easy nor is it a guarantee that your business will succeed. Entrepreneurship is a beast in itself and takes a certain mindset and skill to accomplish.
Â
I'll leave you with this...
Having the ability and interest to learn new skills and adapt to evolving technologies is what's important. If you embrace continuous learning you'll be better positioned to transition into emerging roles if your current position becomes obsolete.
Last tip. Understanding how to work alongside AI tools will be extremely beneficial. Embracing AI as a complement to your skills rather than a replacement is a good outlook to have.
If you're willing to learn, pivot, or even just become more "tech-literate," there's opportunity.Â
Tech isn’t going anywhere.
Peace.
