Are You Willing to Be First? | September Leadership Series

Preface: When I sat down to write this, my initial approach was pretty straightforward, write something motivating, of course. I already knew what the title of this post would be weeks in advance (I have this whole month planned out in terms of concepts).  As I got to writing, a question popped into my mind, "What if someone like Harriet Tubman wrote this blog post, imagine how powerful it would be.

Now, I'm not Harriet Tubman, but I am going to write this while using her as a guide. I think it's a perfect approach to today's entry, "Are You Willing to be First?"

Let's get to it...

Are You Willing to be First?

There's always a risk in going first. You risk the possibility of walking alone. You risk the possibility of failure. You risk the possibility of being misunderstood. You may even risk being betrayed. But someone has to do it. Someone has to step forward and make a way when no one else would dare.

I've seen the burning desire in people's eyes when they wanted freedom. I've seen the fear, the lost hope when they didn't know the way and the future looked uncertain. One things for sure, standing still is not an option anymore. So someone has to go first. To go first is to bear the weight on behalf of others. And through your actions, they find their courage. YOU are willing to endure the uncertainty and fear so they can experience the hope.

Leadership can be a blessing, but it sometimes comes with a burden.

I know someone reading this feels the same tug. You see what could be and the vision overwhelms you enough to want to take action. But let me ask you, are you willing to face rejection after rejection and still move forward? Are you willing to sacrifice comfort? Are you willing to go alone at first? If your answer is yes, I look forward to seeing the impact you have on the world.

This is what being first demands from you. Write it down and keep it close to you:

Vision beyond what you presently see.

Obedience over comfort.

Courage to go at it alone. Once you go, people will find their courage to come with you.

Faith that is greater than your fear.

You got this. 💪🏾

Peace.
