Dear Younger Me,
You’d be proud to know that the courage you had to be yourself became your power. You’re a little quiet, and that's ok. But learn to use your words. Speak good things into existence. Speak your mind, respectfully. And speak up for others.
You don’t always fit in, and sometimes you wonder if that’s a problem you need to fix. You move to your own rhythm and that rhythm will take you places. Even though life feels mostly okay right now, there’s something in you that knows there’s more. More dreams. More truth. More meaning. And you’re right.
But, the journey to more is not a straight line. It's uphill battles, and downhill triumphs.
You’ll get your heart broken. Many times.
You’ll try to fix people, but that is not your responsibility.
And you’ll lose your closest people in young adulthood. Leaving you with less options for guidance. But the road has many lessons that will make you wise, if you just pay attention. So pay attention. Observe always.
What will shape you most will be in the seasons you have almost nothing. But that's when you learn to hold on to God. There will come a time when you'll wonder if all of this faith and fight is worth it. And that’s where you’ll find Him. You'll find him in the quiet moments when you don’t know where you’re sleeping next, yet somehow peace still finds you.
You won’t always see it, but God will be there the whole time. Protecting your life and showing up in ways that don’t make sense until later. Along your journey, you will inspire people because you kept showing up. Because your pain turned into purpose, and your ideas turned into movement.
So remember this lil Morgan... and for anyone reading this if you're just starting out:
You deserve great experiences.
Don’t ever shrink to be loved.
Read a lot.
Learn yourself.
Always be learning.
Save your money. Invest your money, and pay everything on time.
Leave any job that doesn’t respect your value.
Make more music. Make more art. Share your thoughts. Don’t wait for perfect.
Get closer to God now. You’ll need Him more than you know.
And above all... Don't silence your calling. Although I can tell you first hand, it won’t ever leave you alone anyways. It will eat at you until you make some movement. So don't ignore it.
And when it gets hard, smile anyway. Love nature. Love big. Be kind, but set your boundaries.
You’ll make it through the darkest parts. And even when you feel alone, you won’t be. The pieces will always come together.
Keep going. Keep believing. Keep building.
You are not crazy for dreaming big.
Love,
Me, with a little patch of grey hair and 3 months away from 40.
